Ship Deck Operation - Deck Rating

Program Purpose

The program is designed to train skilled personnel for the maritime transport industry, with a particular focus on preparing individuals for roles as Deck Rating.

Qualification Awarded: Basic Vocational Qualification in Ship Deck Operation.

Career Opportunities and Employment Scope:

Graduates will receive documentation confirming their education and practice completion. They must then undergo certification to obtain the necessary credentials. With these documents, they can take the exam to receive a work diploma from the Maritime Transport Agency under the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

Upon meeting the seafarer certification requirements and accumulating recognized seamanship experience, in accordance with Georgia’s law on the basic vocational qualification in ship deck operation, graduates will receive a work license (qualification certificate). This certification enables employment in various sectors, including the maritime trade, passenger transport, port auxiliary fleet, fishing industry and related fields. Graduates may serve as ordinary deckhands on ships or work in state or private institutions connected to marine transport services and operations.

Learning Outcomes Aligned with the Qualifications to be Awarded

Upon completion, a graduate will be able to:

  • Assist in the safe operation of deck equipment and machinery
  • Participate in safe navigation watch duties
  • Steer the ship effectively
  • Take part in trailer and sloop operations
  • Maintain and clean the ship's cabins
  • Contribute to the preventive maintenance of deck machinery
  • Perform rigging tasks
  • Assist in cargo operations on the ship
  • Carry out painting tasks aboard the ship
  • Ensure safety on board

Program Duration: 14 months

Ship's Engine Room Operation - Engine Room Ratings 

Program Purpose:

The program aims to develop skilled professionals in the field of maritime transport services, specifically focusing on training Engine Room Ratings for the ship's engine department.

Qualification Awarded:Basic vocational qualifications in the Ship's Engine Room Operation.

Career Opportunities and Employment Scope:

Graduates will receive documentation confirming their education and practice completion. They must then undergo certification to obtain the necessary credentials. With these documents, they can take the exam to receive a work diploma from the Maritime Transport Agency under the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

Based on the basic vocational qualifications for the ship's engine room operation, meeting seafarer certification requirements as per the Georgian Law "On Education and Certification of Seafarers," and possessing recognized seafaring experience, graduates can obtain a work license (qualification certificate). This certification enables employment in various sectors, including the maritime merchant fleet, passenger transport, port auxiliary services, the fishing industry, and other ship-related roles within the engine department. Employment opportunities also exist in state or private institutions related to marine transport services and operations.

Upon graduation, a graduate will be able to:

  • Provide technical maintenance for boilers, machinery and equipment systems in the ship's engine room.
  • Carry out repairs on engine room mechanisms
  • Manage engine room shifts
  • Perform painting tasks
  • Participate in fuel receiving and pumping operations
  • Assist in operations related to bilge and ballast water management
  • Manage the work environment and inventory
  • Ensure safety on board

Program Duration: 14 months

Electricity

Program Objective:

The program aims to train skilled professionals in low voltage electricity.

Qualification Awarded: Basic Vocational Qualification in Electricity.

Career Opportunities and Employment Scope:

Graduates with a basic vocational qualification in electricity can find employment in various roles, including personal electricians for electrical installations and equipment, electrotechnical system installers, building electricians, supplier-electricians, electro-mechanics, installers of electrical wiring and fittings, lighting system installers, fire alarm installers, security alarm installers, street lighting and electrical signaling device installers, runway lighting installers and installers of solar energy electric collectors.

Learning Outcomes Aligned with the Qualifications to be Awarded

Upon graduation, a graduate will be able to:

  • Provide first aid to those injured
  • Utilize electrical technologies for the production, transmission, and distribution of electricity
  • Install and test lighting and electrical circuits in residential and small industrial settings
  • Access and apply engineering information using information and communication technology (ICT)
  • Calculate the volume and area of geometric figures and use statistical methods for data representation
  • Read and create engineering drawings using various techniques, including computer-aided drafting (CAD)
  • Develop and present a project

Program Duration: 10 months
